Yoho Lake is slightly over 4km (8km return) in Yoho National Park. The trail climbs steadily from the trail-head to the lake. However, it never really feels too difficult. While hiking the trail, you can enjoy views of Takakkaw Falls, beautiful flowers, a spectacular lake, Mount Wapta and, possibly, wildlife. Once at Yoho Lake, you'll find campsites, picnic style tables, bear cache, and outhouses.

The Hike
Beginning at the Whiskey Jack Hostel parking lot, the trail ascends through forest. On this day, we had a thunderstorm roll through in the afternoon.

As you gain elevation through the forest, you'll find view of Takakkaw Falls in the distance.

After following the trail through the forest, it'll start to open as you enter into the sub-alpine areas. In the picture below, you can see an elk in the distance.

At Yoho Lake, you'll find picnic style tables. Whiskey Jacks are not far!

Nearby the tables, the lake has a beautiful sandy beach.

In the later afternoon, elk made their way to the lake. They along the shoreline through our campsite.

Campsites as spacious with plenty of trees to setup a tarp.

Adirondack chairs provide a nice spot to relax. From here, the view of Mount Wapta is beautiful.

Final Thoughts
Yoho Lake is the perfect backpacking destination for families. You don't have to hike too far and the campground has all the necessary amenities. Beautiful scenery certainly helps too! From the campsite, you can day hike the Iceline trail or reach other destinations in the park.
