For many people, Nissen Bight is the dividing line between the NCT and Cape Scott Trails in the Park. With the arrival of day five, Nissen Bight signalled the end of our hike on the NCT. From Nissen Bight, we hiked to San Joseph Bay for our final night in the park.

Laura Creek to Nissen Bight

On the way to retrieve our food from the locker, we encountered a black bear feeding on sand flies in the kelp beds outside the entrance to the forest campsite. Once the bear moved far enough from the entrance, we got our food for breakfast.

When we returned to hike to Nissen Bight, you can see the dig sites in the kelp beds.

After a walk along the beach, we returned to the forest. We enjoyed the boardwalk and stairs.

Nissen Bight had the best campsite of the trip. Near the outhouse, food lockers, water source, shaded area for the tent, sunny on the beach and tidal pools. It was the perfect way to conclude our hike of the NCT.

Final Thoughts

From Laura creek to Nissen Bight, the hike was very enjoyable. With boardwalk, stairs, bridges and so forth, the trail is relatively easy. There are a few muddy sections but it is fairly brief. Whether you hike the entire trail or sections of it, the NCT is spectacular!
